Zen and the art of Ikea
I assembled a table and a set of drawers I bought from Ikea today. It took me 4 hours, and it made me rethink every life decision I made that lead me into this dreadful situation.
I hated every second of it, and my legs and back are aching like hell. You would think that maybe seeing the end product would make it all better, but that’s further from the truth. As soon as it is done, you just thank god that you are still conscious and move on to something else. I think if you really want to know a person, invite them over for an Ikea assembly party.
In hindsight what I find interesting about it all is this. In everyday life, I can’t wait to just abandon a project the minute I find it even slightly annoying. Be it a new book, or a task at work, or even a job. Things that are way more important than furniture, I would happily leave half done. But there’s just something about building something with your hands, that you just gotta finish it somehow.
So you fight through the pain, give it your 200%. For some furniture. For something that could probably wait till tomorrow morning.
