Day 286 / 366

Today I saw a post on Reddit about how the website of a coding Youtuber was hacked. The hacker revealed how the Youtuber had made 23+ crore Rs so far selling his DS Algo courses.

Now I do not have a problem with people earning money. Hell, for the majority of my career money was the main goal for me as well. But I do have a problem with the way these people make money.

Youtubers like these build an audience at first by putting up content for free. They boast about how good they are and how great their Microsoft or Google jobs were. And they make false claims that just by doing their course anyone will be able to secure these jobs. They create a feeling of FOMO amongst their viewers. Most of their paid courses are also just information that is available for free online.

I was a self-taught programmer, and I believe anyone can be too. I never took any courses or classes. And even when I train my interns I don’t spoon-feed them everything. Instead, I try to teach them how they can figure things out on their own. Software is a profession where tech changes every 6 months. You need to be a quick learner, and you cannot always rely on paid courses to help you do that.
