Why there’s always room for dessert
Day 240 / 365
Whenever we go out for dinner for a special occasion, we always tend to overeat. By the end of it, we might sometimes be so full that we are struggling to breathe. But there will be few who even in that state will say no to dessert. Everyone somehow makes room for dessert!
Why is it that however full we are, we are always able to accommodate some dessert at the end of the meal?
This actually has a scientific explanation. See our stomachs are flexible organs and they can expand and contract. Sweet food causes them to expand, which in turn leaves us feeling less full. It’s the pressure inside the stomach that makes you feel full, and when the stomach expands, this pressure is released.
And this can be triggered even with a little taste of sugar. This is why it’s generally a good practice to have just a little amount of something sweet, like jaggery, after a meal. The resulting expansion will relief you of the discomfort that sometimes comes after overeating.
