Why is everyone obsessed with taking photos?

Day 126 / 366

People who were born before the age of smartphones would remember what it was like actually experiencing a moment through your eyes and not through a phone screen. Something like that would feel so weird today. Whether it is a concert, a comedy show, or a cricket match; people would have their phones in front of their faces, concerned more about whether they are able to get a good shot or not. What’s the point?

I can understand the pics you would take of yourself with your friends. Those at least serve a purpose. Years later you could look back at them and reminisce. But the 100s of pics of clouds that you have taken from flights over the years, do they really have any value?

I know I sound really cynical. And I am aware that most people would disagree with me. But it’s just my personal opinion, and everyone’s entitled to one. I know that I rarely open my phone gallery to look at old photos. And most of the time when Google Photos would show me photos from years ago, I don’t even recall taking them.

I just feel like photos and videos used to mean a lot more back in the day. Sitting with your friends and family and looking at old photos used to be a common activity that people loved to do. We don’t do that anymore, and that's a shame. Some moments are meant to be lived, not just documented.
