Day 187 / 365

In yesterday’s blog, I talked about Alex Tew, a 21-year-old who made a million dollars by selling pixels on a simple webpage. Within a few months, the guy became a millionaire. But what happened after that? was he just a one time wonder?

One thing to note about Alex is that he wasn’t a fluke. Since an early age, he had a knack for business. When he was just 8 he was selling handwritten comics for 5$ each to his schoolmates. So there is no way he would have stopped after making a million dollars. The success of the million dollar homepage gave him the confidence to drop out of college and try his hand on new things.

He tried out several new ideas that were similar, but they couldn’t live up to the success of the original, as it so often happens with viral stars. This had a bad effect on Alex’s mental health.

Alex was into meditation, but he realized that during this period he had stopped meditating regularly. He knew he had to get that habit going again, but he thought that this was something others can benefit from as well. So he chose this as his new idea, and this gave birth to a little app you might have heard of called Calm

Calm has been a huge success and is one of the most popular meditation apps out there. With over 10 million downloads on Android alone, the company is currently valued at 250 million dollars.

The 8-year-old boy selling 5$ comics became a millionaire at 21 and at 34 the owner of a 250 million $ company. And I am sure he is not gonna stop there.
