Where is my mind?
Most of our thoughts are repetitive. Like a song playing on a loop, our minds will keep going through the same old familiar patterns. But the worst part is that we are completely unaware of this.
Just stop and think about it for a minute, what’s been going on in your head today? Perhaps you were worried about something, and you were imagining worst-case scenarios. Perhaps you were sad and reminiscing about old times. But if you look closely, you will realize that your train of thought is pretty predictable.
You receive an angry message from your boss, and you’ll start going through the list you have in your head of all the things you hate about your job. You’ll then switch to thinking about your friends and how their jobs are so much better. Cut to thinking about how you will someday leave this job and do something that you care about. This inevitably leads to you feeling sad that you always just think about it and never do anything.
But what exactly did all that thinking accomplish? absolutely nothing. It almost seems like your own mind is working to ruin your mental health if that makes any sense.
Once you become aware of this cyclic pattern of thoughts of your stupid brain, it becomes even more frustrating. All that time wasted worrying about nothing.
I know it would be hard, but try and take this up as a challenge and not as a weakness. Be mindful of your thoughts. Every time you catch yourself going down the same road, stop and think about something else, maybe listen to a song that you like or talk to a friend. To be honest I don’t have any suggestions on this, as I myself haven’t found a good way to handle it.
