Unending Love, Amazing Grace

I’ve been an atheist for as long as I can remember. It’s not like I never believed in the existence of a God, I was just too stubborn to accept any predefined notions of what God is supposed to be and how we are supposed to act to make that God happy. I was a firm believer in Science, in the fact that anything that happens could one day be explained with scientific facts.

While I still don’t believe in a conventional God, I do now believe that there are things that happen that we just can’t explain easily. There are laws by which our lives work which are just true. Isn’t that what faith is supposed to be? believing in something without asking for an explanation?

Take this line from a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan

मन का हो तो अच्छा, ना हो तो और भी अच्छा

If you get what you desire, that’s an outcome that would make you happy. But if you don’t you should find peace in that as well. Because it means that now you will receive what God or a higher power wants for you. And that would always be for your best.

I now understand why people are religious. It’s comforting to know that there is something taking care of you. I do not believe in a judgemental god. I believe that this higher power that controls everything would answer anyone who asks for help.

That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

So if ever you are lost like me, have faith in the universe. Things will fall into place on their own. The universe has a plan for you, don’t try and fight it.
