Trying out Google One AI
Day 104 / 366
Today while using Gmail I saw a notification prompting me to try Google One AI for free. I had been waiting for Google to integrate its LLM Gemini into Gmail and Google Docs for a long time. Although the monthly subscription seems a bit high at almost 2000 Rs per month, I am getting it free for the first 2 months, so I decided to try it out. Also, I set a reminder in my calendar for 2 months from now so that I don’t forget to cancel it.
So what do we get for 1950.00 / month?
This is the list of features that Google offers
- Help you write in Gmail and Docs
- Create original images in Slides
- Enhance your video quality in Meet
- Gemini Advanced with our 1.0 Ultra model
- 2 TB of storage
- Other Google One Premium benefits
In Gmail, this gives you 4 AI options while composing emails
I tried the elaborate feature and it worked ok
I think this will be really useful for official emails.
In Google Docs, the AI button is a floating icon on the side of the page that lets you enter a prompt.
But like most other AI tools, even with a slightly more complex problem it just gives up.
I ran into this error in gmail as well when I asked it to compose the reply to an email.
I will keep using this for the next month or so and see if it translates into any increase in productivity.
