’Tis the season

Day 359 / 366

It’s Christmas Eve, which is fun for loads of reasons. There is no more stress at work. Since most of my clients are from outside of India, It’s the holiday season for them, which means no hard deadlines.

Then there is also the cosy winter weather here in Mumbai. It’s not freezing cold, nor is it too hot. It’s just the right temperature. A warm cup of tea feels much more refreshing, and so does having a hot bowl of ramen late at night.

It’s funny how different things make us happy as we grow old. Christmas as a child was still fun, but it was fun for different reasons. We did believe in Santa, at least for a few years. My parents would make us keep our empty school bags near our beds at night. In the morning, we would find gifts and chocolates in it. Also, we had our winter breaks. Unlike the summers, we could stay out and play cricket for as long as we wanted.

In contrast to that, these days all I need is some time off work and that is enough for me to feel like it’s a holiday. Being able to turn off my phone notifications without worrying about clients is all I want. And Christmas is the perfect time for that.
