Day 268 / 365

If you have a goal that you want to achieve, do you think that the path to where you are now to where you want to be is going to be a straight line? absolutely not!

The path to success is terribly zig-zagged, filled with peaks and valleys. Sometimes you might get closer, sometimes you might have big setbacks. Casey Niestat, a YouTuber that I idolize, Describes this using a Tarzan analogy.

Tarzan goes around swinging from one vine to another. If he wants to get from point A to point B, he won’t get one straight series of vines that will get him there. He’ll grab a vine and swing a little closer to B, but the next one might go the other direction and so on.

This is important for two reasons. Firstly, if you are pursuing a goal and things don’t seem to be going your way, remind yourself that this is a temporary setback. You just need to grab the right vine to get you back on track.

And secondly, these failures give you a different perspective. You will learn things that you would never have learned if you would have sought a straight path. It gives you new insights, and they might make you rethink your goals and end up with something even better.

The only thing that stands between where you are now and that thing you want to do is just doing it.
