Day 144 / 365

Whats the first thing that comes to your mind when you picture USA in your mind? I bet it’s the statue of liberty.

The Statue of Liberty was actually a gift from France to America, as a token of the friendship between the two nations. Its structure was made by the man who designed the Eiffel tower. It was made in parts in France, then shipped to America (literally through ships) where it was then assembled.

The Colour

The Statue of Liberty today looks bluish green. But it didn’t start out that way. It’s made of copper, so it was golden brown colour back when it was first installed. But with time, it got the same fate that old copper coins get, and it slowly turned into the blue green colour.

The Pedestal

While France made the Statue, the actual pedestal that it stands on was supposed to be made by America. America didn’t have the funds to do it, so they decide to kind of crowd source it. In one effort to raise the funds, They displayed the actual torch and hand in a park. People could pay a small fee and take pictures with it, and could even climb it!
