The pen is mightier than the sword
Day 189 / 365
Language is such a powerful thing. A combination of a few words when done right could have such a profound effect on people. Words have both started and ended wars. Even on an individual level, we all have that one quote, that one sentence in a song that can pick us up from the deepest of depressions and drive you towards your goals. I thought I’ll reflect on some of my personal favorites today
“When you’re good at something, you’ll tell everyone. When you’re great at something, they’ll tell you.”
People get fed up sometimes when they don’t get noticed by their peers of their bosses for the good stuff they are doing. But what I have found that if you just keep your head down and focus on doing a great job, eventually people will appreciate it. And that praise will feel a 1000 times better
“There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart’s desire. The other is to get it.”
This one takes some time to settle in. But as it is the case with many of these quotes, you begin to understand it once you grow old. The first part is clear, it is indeed a tragedy to not get what you want. But what you will find that even when you do get it, happiness is short-lived, and you soon realize that it’s not enough to keep you satisfied. Something that you always wanted, loses it’s meaning once you achieve it. And if that’s not a tragedy then I don’t know what is.
And finally, I’ll leave you with these to interpret as you feel correct -
“Yesterday, I was clever and tried to change the world. Today I am wise and try to change myself.”
