The origin of Tea
Day 183 / 365
Tea is one of the most popular beverages on the planet. I think the fact that two of the most populated countries love it so much might have something to do with it. Fun fact about India’s population, India is the 2nd most populated country, and if you remove 1 billion people from it, it would still be the 2nd most populated country!
Anyways getting back to Tea, definitely my personal favourite beverage by a long mile, today I thought I’ll look into how it came about and why it became so popular
The origin story
There’s quite a little story about how the tea as a beverage was discovered by accident. About 5000 years ago, a Chinese emperor was sitting outside while his servant was boiling water for him to drink. This is when the wind caused the leaves of a nearby plant to fall into the boiling water.
The emperor was a curious fella, and he tried this water infused with the leaves, and he thought it tasted quite nice. That plant was Camellia sinensis, which we know now as the tea plant.
