The only way out is through
We truly are living in interesting times right now. Everyone around the globe is fumbling through each day, trying to make some sense out of all this mess. For most of us young people, this is totally unprecedented. And I think it’s fair that we are freaking out.
Unless you are one of those people that believe that this is the end of the world and we are all gonna die, you’ve gotta have some hope that this thing comes to an end. We all want things to go back to normal again. The question is, how do we get there?
I don’t think I have any amount of authority or knowledge to preach you guys what to do or what not to do. But I’m sure you would agree with me that there are small things that we all can do to help.
First and foremost, stay where you are. Don’t travel unless absolutely necessary. You might think of it as just taking a risk for a few hours, but it’s way more than that. It’s not just about you. You might not catch the virus. You might catch it and still don’t feel a thing. But you could possibly act as a carrier and spread it somewhere else. There are several rural areas right now that might not have been exposed yet. But if we all start panicking and traveling from metros to these places, it’s a high probability that they’ll get exposed as well.
Second, don’t hoard supplies. I’m not saying that be ignorant and don’t prepare. Preparing for a lockdown by buying a few staples is fine. But clearing out all the hand sanitizers from a shop is not.
And last but not the least, look after your elders. They are the ones most vulnerable. If you know an elderly person that might not have someone to care for them, give them a call and assure them that you’ll be there to help out.
All of this sounds easy, but with all the panic and hysteria going around, I know it gets hard to think straight. We are hardwired to give more weightage to the worst-case scenarios.
But the truth is, we are all in this together, and we need to work together to get through this. And the only way we can get through this is to buckle up and maintain the discipline to do the right thing.
May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.
