When things are not going great, it’s funny what sorts of things can cheer you up out of nowhere. You can search all you want for a cure, take people's advice, and nothing would work, but in the midst of all the despair, you can sometimes find these little moments of joy.

I am trying to get into the habit of going for morning walks. Usually when I am walking my mind is either on a podcast that I am listening to or on my smartwatch to see how many calories I have burnt so far. Today I went to a park nearby, and as I was walking there I saw different people doing yoga facing the same direction.

They were all looking at the rising sun. You know that perfect time in the morning when the sun is a pleasant dark orange color, and you can look into it without hurting your eyes. I stopped for a moment and did just that. I forgot about the podcast or the calories and just admired how pretty the sky looked.

It’s easy to get caught up in our own heads, thinking about the past or worrying about the future. But the present is all we truly have, and it’s up to us to make the most of it. Whether it’s taking a walk in a park and taking in the sights and sounds of nature, or simply pausing to appreciate the small things in our daily lives, it’s important that we take the time to savor the present.

So, the next time you find yourself caught up in the chaos of life, take a moment to stop and smell the roses. It might just be the pause you need to refocus and recenter yourself. And who knows, it might even bring a little bit of joy and peace into your day.
