Stoicism and Self Discipline
Day 185 / 365
I’ve talked about stoic philosophy quite a lot on this blog, but I still keep learning new things about it. In a nutshell, stoicism teaches us about how you and only you can control your actions. And since actions are the way to success, you have all you need to succeed within you. To put this into practice one would need to develop Self Discipline. Here are some stoic ways of doing so
Learn from people who have achieved what you desire
To draw a straight line, you would need a ruler to put your pencil against. Similarly in life, if you are looking to achieve a goal, it helps a lot if you keep the company of people who are already successful in that domain. Don’t hesitate to study them, ask questions, and even copy their actions. Also, don’t just see their positives, see their shortcomings as well as it’s just as important to learn from their mistakes.
Review your day
At the beginning of each day, you should write down what things you are planning to achieve that day. And in the end, take some time before you go to bed to review your day. What things went wrong, what things went right. Make it a point to repeat the good behavior the next day and avoid the mistakes.
Treat every day as a brand new start
As much as it’s important to identify your failures, you should not get demotivated by it. Just because you had one bad day, doesn’t mean that the next one should be the same. They are independent. You have all the power in the world to change your actions so that today is better than yesterday, and tomorrow would be even better!
