Sends Shivers Down My Spine
Day 84 / 365
Have you ever had a strange euphoric feeling when listening to a song? Has a chord or a melody or some lyrics ever given you goosebumps? I’ve had that a lot, and I used to think that it was just cause I really like a song or it was an old song that I associated with old memories.
But today I had that same experience, with a brand new song. A song I have never heard before. I was watching an episode of House, and a tune started playing at the end of the episode. I liked the tune so I looked it up. This is how I find most of the songs that I love. The song was Desire by Ryan Adams
As I listened to the song, I fell in love with it instantly. It was the first time I was hearing it, and yet I still got goosebumps. And when the harmonica started playing, I swear I could have cried.
I looked it up and there is actually a word for this feeling — “Frisson”. It’s a french term that describes the sensation of shivers, chills, or tingling that some people experience when listening to a particularly moving piece of music.
There are plenty of songs that do this for me, and they are more precious to me than anything else.
