Rakshabandhan
Day 232 / 366
As kids, Rakshabandhan was a really fun festival to celebrate. Schools would be off. We would get up early but we did not get to eat anything until we were done with the Rakhi tying. Usually, there would be a few cousins who would come from out of town to celebrate Rakhi with us. Mom and Dad would get the preferred sweets for all of us, I always wanted a kaju katli.
We would get dressed in ethnic clothes and all us brothers would sit in a line, with new white handkerchiefs on our heads. And didi would one by one tie Rakhis on our hands.
When it was all done, we would sit together to eat chole, puri and jeera rice. That was the fixed menu for Rakhi in my house. And it was always delicious. Whether it was cause we were so hungry, or because of all the festival love, who knows.
Years later, we have all grown up and grown apart. But this festival is still just as special. I don’t get to celebrate Rakhi at home, but no matter where I am, the Rakhi’s from my lovely sisters would always reach me. If I am lucky, like this year, I get to meet Didi as well. I have 6 rakhis on my hand today, and I am grateful for each and every one of them.
I got to have kaju katli as well, so all in all, today was good.
