Practicing Gratitude
Day 98 / 366
Our brains are great at overestimating the bad stuff and underestimating the good stuff. And so we are biased to have the opinion that our lives are shitty.
By default, we would more often than not remember the bad things that happened to us. If right now I ask you to list 3 things today that you are pissed off about, you will be able to do that quite quickly. On the other hand, if I ask you to list 3 things you were thankful for, will have a real hard time with that.
Fortunately, we can train our brains to change this. We can make it so that we notice the good things more throughout the day. This is a simple thing that anyone can achieve with some practice. Many people do this by keeping a Gratitude journal.
The steps are easy, at the end of each day before you go to sleep, write down 3 things that happened today that you are thankful for. Not only will It feel good at the moment, but it will also in the long term make you better at noticing and being thankful for the good things in your life. As you go through your day whenever something good happens, you will start making mental notes about it.
Life is much easier to live once you learn to look at the good little things and allow yourself to be happy about them.
