Pay it forward

Day 76 / 366

Do you believe in Karma? I do, but I also think that most of us tend to get it a bit wrong. The basic concept is pretty simple — If you do good things, good things will happen to you. If you do bad things, bad things might happen to you.

It becomes complicated when we assume that if we help someone, or do something good for someone, the same person is then supposed to repay that as well. I often make the same mistake as well, but that is not how it works.

There have been situations in the past where I have helped people and got nothing in return. And sometimes it does bother me. But then later in life, I have had total strangers do so much for me without a reason. And I think it's all related. When you put good out in the universe, the universe will do good to you as well. You just cannot control where and how that happens.

I like the concept of paying it forward. It means that if I do something good for someone, and they want to repay me for it, I would much rather encourage them to help someone else in need later. And in some way I think the reason I like to help others out is because I am grateful for the good things that have happened to me out of nowhere. And although it gets hard cause we are all just human, I really try not to expect anything in return.
