Organisation Simplified
day 46 / 365
I have read a lot of books on productivity. I have used several techniques, apps, and websites. Things that people suggest you master in order to become more efficient. More productive. But when things get really chaotic, I find myself going back to the same tool that has worked for me since I was little — A pen and a piece of paper.
I have too much stuff to get done this week, and I am juggling multiple projects. And I was clueless this morning as to how I should go about it. I wasted a couple of hours doing nothing since I lacked the confidence that I would be able to get anything done. But the clock was ticking, so I picked up a blank piece of paper and started writing.
I followed a simple 2-step process. First is to list down all the projects that I need to work on. This could be in any order. Once I am sure I have listed all of them, I go through them and cross out the ones that I know are not that important, i.e. it would not be the end of the world if I didn’t get to them today.
Step-2, For each of the projects that are left, make a simple To-Do list. I try and do this in order of the importance of the projects. Once I have all the to-do lists, I repeat the same trimming-down process. Cross out the tasks that are not a priority.
When you do this, all the chaos that you had in your head would be reduced to a list of fewer than 10 tasks, neatly organized in groups. That final list is your goal for the day. Get working and start ticking off completed tasks.
