One step back, two steps forward

Day 355 / 366

Taking a step back in life is tough. No one wants a downgrade. Be it putting your career on pause to work on yourself, or switching to a new job that might pay less but would be better for you in the long run. It’s tough, which is why not a lot of people do it. But when there is a high risk, there is a high reward as well.

I am in the middle of doing something like this right now, as I have not worked a full-time job in over 2 years now. For all this time, I have never had a steady paycheck, nor did I know where the money would come from. I won’t lie, it is damn scary. But it was equally rewarding.

The best part is that if you can just persevere through this scary phase and don’t give up, things will eventually start improving. I have a great team now, and I can confidently say that me and my team together can easily do twice the amount of work that I was able to when I was working alone as a freelancer. Back then if I had 3–4 projects going on at the same time then I would soon be burned out. But these days, having only 3–4 projects make me concerned that there is not enough work for the company. And there have been times when we have even managed 8 projects at the same time.

Sometimes you’ve got to take a step back in order to move two steps forward.
