Day 341 / 366

It’s 11:15 PM, and I am still at the office. But unlike most companies, this is not a stressful deployment night. Me and my team are here cause we unanimously decided to do a 24-hour hackathon to work on an idea that we have been thinking about for so long.

You can only get so far with just an idea. At some point, you have to get your hands dirty and start working on it. You may succeed or you may fail, but that is not the point. What’s important is that you put in the work.

I’ve always loved hackathons, and now I can see my team getting psyched up about them as well, which is a big win for me. It’s fun to introduce these new concepts to them and watch them go through the same journey that I wen through when I started as a developer. I never had a good mentor though when I started, and I made a lot of mistakes. It’s my job now to make sure that they don’t make those same mistakes.

We are still only about halfway there. We are working in 4-hour sprints, with 3 hours of work and 1 hour of review, rest and planning. We are coding everything from scratch and have the final goal clear. Regardless of the outcome, this is going to be a great learning experience for us as a team.

There is still loads of work to do, so that’s all there is for today’s blog.
