No one’s coming

What do you do when you face a problem in life?

You try and fix it to the best of your abilities. If that fails then you ask someone for help. If that fails as well, you just give up.

There are people in your life that are your go-to for a certain type of problem. I know that if I have an issue with my health, I will talk to my sister who is a doctor. If I have any issues with taxes, I’ll talk to my father.

But there are problems where it seems that there is no one to help. For instance, these days I feel like I am stuck in a rut. I am not working at my full potential, I am procrastinating a lot and missing deadlines. And I don’t think anyone can help me with this.

There’s a book I read last year — 100 ways to motivate yourself. One of the chapters was titled, No one’s coming. The gist of the chapter was this, whenever we find ourselves stuck in a difficult situation, it’s easy to just wait and do nothing, hoping that someone else will come and fix everything. But the reality is, no one is going to come to help you. If you want things to change, you would have to get up yourselves and take some action.

I have since tried to follow this philosophy the best that I can. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean that I just bottle up my feelings and don’t talk to anyone about my problems. I do discuss things with others, and I do ask for their advice. But at the end of the day, I know that I have to make decisions myself and act on it.
