“Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.” — Oscar Wilde

Is there more good in the world than evil?

If you prioritize the well-being of others, will they do the same for you?

Will your kindness always be repaid?

I used to have a more optimistic view of life. If you had asked me this question when I was younger, I would have confidently said that there is balance in the universe. If you do good deeds for others, the universe will pay it forward by doing good things for you in return.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that the world doesn’t always operate on a principle of fairness. Many people are selfish and prioritize their own needs above those of others. It’s not hard to understand why; after all, if you’re only looking out for yourself, it’s natural to focus on your own needs and wants. Even if you make sacrifices for someone else, there’s no guarantee that they will feel obligated to do the same for you. The reality is that we can’t always count on others to reciprocate our kindness and generosity.

The sooner you accept this, the better it is. The world is filled with both good and bad people. Those who want to do good or help others will do that unconditionally, without expecting anything in return.

If you want to help others and do good deeds, it’s important to remember that these actions should be their own reward. If you go into it expecting something in return, you may be disappointed. Instead, focus on the satisfaction and fulfillment that come from making a positive impact on others and the world around you.
