Moments that inspire all of us

Day 112 / 366

I saw a reel today that first showed the shot that Dhoni hit for a six in a recent IPL game, and then followed it up with the winning shot that he played in the 2011 World Cup final. And I won’t lie I welled up watching that, like I always do.

I wonder why moments like these especially in sports inspire us all. We all have clips like this that we can go back to which show these high-performance individuals beating all odds and snatching victory from the hand of defeat.

And for me, it's not just sports. There are clips from TV shows and movies that I watch to hype myself up. For instance, there was a video on YouTube of a Pokemon fight where Ash’s Infernape goes berserk and wins it. And the background song was Still Waiting by the band Sum 41. I watched that before every exam I took when I was in Kota.

Or it could be this video of Goku going super saiyan 3 for the first time.

During the last IPL when CSK won, Sunil Gavaskar said in an interview that when he is on his deathbed, his last wish would be to see two videos, one of Kapil Dev lifting the World Cup trophy in 1983 and the other of Dhoni’s match-winning six in the World Cup 2011 final.

You can read as many self-help books as you like, or listen to loads of motivational speakers. But sometimes all you need to motivate yourself and get you going is to watch 10-second reel of MSD hitting it out of the park.
