Lyrics that move you
I love music, and not just in the way that people love songs as something to play in the background or something to dance to. I love songs religiously. It boggles me how some people can just listen to the same song on a loop 100s of times. If I find a song that I like, I ration it. I would never play it more than once in a day, as I don’t want it to get old for me.
Most of the songs that I like have one thing in common, they would all have a part of their lyrics that just makes me feel something else. Lines that move you, that are capable of giving you the shivers, making you feel that lump in your throat.
I once read that Ricky Gervais has a song that he could never listen to when he is away from home. He says that there is a chord that plays in the song that will always make him miss home and bring him to tears. That’s the power I am talking about.
I have always wanted to fill a wall in my room with all such lyrics from all the songs that I have loved over the years. But I have been too lazy to actually do it. Heck, I’ll just list some here in this blog.
“A voice that says I’ll be here, and you’ll be alright..”— City of stars
“It hurts to say, but I want you to stay..” — Someday
“To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die..” — There’s a light that never goes out
“Wipe that tear away now from your eyes..” — Champagne Supernova
“Now that you’re mine, we’ll find a way..” — Slide Away
And many many more. I know these won’t make much sense to you unless you know the songs, so please give these a listen.
