Llama3 and Meta AI

Facebook just released a new and exciting AI product. Unlike other recent releases that were just demos, their products can actually be tried and tested by the general public. They came out with the best open source LLM yet — Llama 3, and also an updated assistant Meta AI that utilizes this new model.

You can try out Meta AI on WhatsApp or Instagram. It didn’t work for me on WhatsApp but on Instagram, I was able to use it by typing @ in any chat. It can generate text for you based on any prompt. You can even ask it to generate images for you. In the basic testing I did the responses were good enough.

This means great things for the open-source LLM users. This model has been released in 4 different sizes, going as low as 7 Billion parameters. In early testing, their 13b model has outperformed GPT-3. And the other models are performing at par with the new Claude 3 models.

I have not delved into open-source LLMs much, but this is making me want to do it now. This week I will try and run Llama3 locally and see how easy they are to use and deploy.
