Day 181 / 366

Consider this situation. You have a deadline today, there is a task that you need to finish in the next 2 hours no matter what. But everything else in your life is acting as a distraction. Maybe you are sad or depressed about something, maybe you are angry cause you got into a fight with a loved one. Maybe you want to do nothing, and just sit in a corner and cry.

But then, you have your deadline. No matter how shitty you feel, the deadline won’t move. You won’t be able to use your bad mood as an excuse for your lateness. So your have to somehow keep all your emotions aside and get to work.

I have been in this situation a lot, especially with writing this blog. I have taken up the challenge of writing a blog daily, and there have been days when I have not been in a position to collect my thoughts and write anything. This has been the toughest thing for me. The same goes for running my own office. Even if I am in a bad mood, I need to show up each day and give my 200%. I need to stay positive and make sure that the team morale is high, even if I might be screaming on the inside myself.

It’s tough, but I definitely feel like I am getting better at it. And it has made me better at controlling my emotions outside of work as well. This was something that I have always been bad at. Pushing through these situations builds resilience. Each time you overcome your emotions to focus on the task at hand, you take a step towards mastering your mind.
