Jim Carrey on Depression

Day 85 / 365

I watched an interview with Jim Carrey today. He mentioned something about depression that really resonated with me -

“Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me,’”

Doesn’t it feel too much sometimes?

I think adulthood is just a series of To Do lists, that we need to check off day in and day out. These are not necessarily the things you want to do, but those that you have to do.

In principle, being happy shouldn’t be that hard. If only we could just do the stuff that we enjoy, without thinking about our careers, our jobs, or the expectations of our loved ones.

I would love to stay up all night today, watch a TV series and play video games. But I have work to do, so I will go to bed at a reasonable hour, set an alarm for 6:30 AM, and wake up, whether I want to or not.
