Is Hollywood going the AI route?
Day 83 / 366
I read on Twitter today that OpenAI is in talks with some big studios in Hollywood, trying to sell SORA to them, their latest model for creating realistic videos with AI. And the public had a mixed reaction to it.
Some compared it to fast food chains, how they first put the smaller indie food stores out of business and then dropped the quality of their products, since the customer had no choice but to buy from them. If Hollywood started using AI to create their movies, it would surely lead to a drop in quality later on, since the human element would be gone.
At the same time, so many people will be out of a job, as AI would take care of a lot of the CGI work and establishing shots. But I do not buy the loss of jobs as a valid reason to resist AI. Any new technology will always lead to this, but it is never as bad as we think. Calculators didn’t put all Mathematicians out of a job. People learn to adapt.
On the plus side though, AI would help smaller studios and independent filmmakers who do not have the budget to build the films they want to make. If that is the case, we might get to see many creative and amazing movies that might have never been made without AI's help. And that is why I am still hopeful about this whole situation.
