Day 304 / 366
I sometimes wonder why humans had to be social animals. Understanding what other people think is just too tough for me. Be it friends, or family members or just random people I encounter in life. I am never able to gauge what is going on in their heads.
If I was given a chance to choose any superpower, I would want the ability to read people's minds. I think it would make my life so much easier. I wouldn’t even use it for anything malicious, I would just want to know what people are thinking about me.
The thing about people is that they lie. Or at the very least they withhold information. When you start socializing, at first you are gullible and you take everything people say at face value. But you soon realise that sometimes people would just say things which they don’t mean, and that could be due to several reasons. Maybe they don’t want you to feel bad, or maybe they don’t think you are important enough for them to be real with you.
And soon enough you start doubting if anyone out there is actually being genuine to you. Isn’t all of this just too much work? I wonder how things would be if everyone just always said what was in their mind.
Do you remember that Jim Carrey movie Yes Man? (which was later remade as the Govinda movie “Kyunki Mai Jhut Nhi Bolta”)? In the movie, the protagonist’s son is granted a wish that his father would never tell a lie. And we see as his life falls apart. So maybe not saying exactly whats in our minds is just a necessity for us to survive as a society.
All that being said, I still wish I could read people’s minds.
