Day 82 / 365

When was the last time you spent a day alone? Not talking to people on the phone, not chatting on social media. Just you alone with your own thoughts.

There was a time when this was not that big of a deal for me. But now I can’t even imagine it. There are so many distractions easily available, and being alone is tough. So why bother?

The truth is, spending time alone is essential for our mental health and personal growth. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on our lives, and our goals. It helps us set our priorities. It allows us to stop for a moment, ignore the hustle and the grind and figure out what we really want.

Although it seems impossible to get some alone time in our busy lives, there are ways you could do that. While a whole day may be impossible, you can surely carve out a few hours.

  • Set boundaries with your devices. Dedicate specific times of the day for checking emails or social media, and avoid using them during your alone time.
  • Create a personal sanctuary, such as a quiet room or a cozy corner, where you can retreat when you need solitude.
  • Take up activities that you enjoy and can do alone, like reading, writing, painting, or going for a walk in nature.
  • Practice mindfulness or meditation to help you become more present and aware of your thoughts and emotions.
