Idea Vs Execution

Day 365 / 366

Yes, it’s Day 365, just one day to go.

I saw an interview with Naval Ravikant today, in which he said how it is easy to recognize first-timers when it comes to startups because they are always very secretive about their ideas.

When people first learn about startups, they would all start thinking of that one amazing idea that no one else would have thought off. And if they are convinced that they have got one, they won’t tell anyone about it. They will be afraid that someone might steal their precious idea.

It’s only after you have tried and failed a few times that you realise that ideas don’t really matter. More often than not, it’s how you execute the idea that matters.

A good idea is not rare. In fact, there is an abundance of great ideas. Think about how many times you’ve heard someone say, “I thought of that years ago!” when a new product or service gains popularity. They’re right — they did think of it. But someone else went out and did it.

Don’t get so caught up in ideas. An average idea with great execution will always beat a great idea with poor execution. So stop thinking and start doing.
