I did it my way

Day 239 / 366

Years ago, I read this book called “It doesn’t have to be crazy at work”. It talked about the flaws with modern corporate offices, and how it is possible to treat your employees as human beings and still make a profit. People who have worked in corporate would know how bad it can get. The book made me want to lead my own team, following principles that might seem stupid to others but feel right to me.

I had opportunities in the past to do so, but I never had full control. There will always be someone higher up resisting these changes. This was one of the main reasons for starting my own company. I wanted complete freedom to build an office which I myself would have loved to work in.

There is a lot that I do differently than most offices here in India. And while many might disagree saying that I would never maximize profit this way, I would counter saying that profit is not the only thing that’s important to me.

I want to make sure that my employees grow at the fastest rate possible. I want to give them an environment that facilitates that.

I want them to have small and regular wins that give them the required boost in confidence.

I want them to work late to deliver a crucial feature because they want to, not because they have to.

I want them to feel a part of the company, and know how much their efforts contribute to its success.

I want them to be proud of the work that they deliver.

And if getting all of this means earning even 10% less money, I think its totally worth it.
