How it feels like running an office

Day 117 / 366

If you have been reading my blog for long you would know that I am a big Casey Niestat fan. And ever since I saw his office/studio, I knew that I wanted one of my own as well. Even though my business is one that could be totally remote, I just had to get one. And I wanted a big enough place, and I wanted it to be in Powai, a place close to my heart. It’s a miracle that I was able to get and office that checked all of these boxes within a budget.

I spent almost a month getting it ready, and this Monday I had my first batch of interns starting work. I was nervous and expected something to go wrong. But thankfully, everything worked out just fine.

I was really skeptical about working from an office. It’s been 4 years since I have been working remotely. I hated going to the office in Mumbai. And I remember back then my goal was to become a freelancer full-time so that I could work from anywhere I wanted. I wanted to become a Digital Nomad. And so I was worried now that I might not be able to handle going to the office 5 days a week.

But 1 week later what I have realised is that things feel different when it is your own office. I love going to the office. In fact I would go there on the weekends as well if I could. It’s great to be in a space mentally and physically meant for work. I find that I am able to get work done more quickly than I did at home.

And at the end of the day, I am the boss. So what I say goes. There is no one trying to tell me how to run things. No one to question my decisions.

I must say that I had my doubts when I was going down this road, but I am so sure that this is exactly what I need in my life right now. After a long time, I am excited about my career again.
