How bad do Mondays suck for you?

Day 60 / 365

I’ve hated Mondays all my life. I’ve hated them as a child when I didn’t want to go to School after a nice Sunday off. Fast forward to present day, I now get both Saturdays and Sundays off, and I hate Mondays even more. Hell, I often feel depressed waking up on a Sunday morning.

Now I know others would feel the same. Monday’s are supposed to suck. It's natural to feel a little inertia when you are trying to transition from weekend mode to work mode. What I am starting to realize now is that the reason they suck more than average for me is that in addition to hating Mondays, I kinda hate my Job as well.

“I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life’.” ― Maya Angelou

There was a 3-month period during my college when I started working part-time with a startup. It paid peanuts, but I didn’t care. I was in it to learn, to get some first-hand experience with software development. In those days I worked 8 hours a day on weekdays, 12 on weekends. And this was in addition to my academic commitments. And I would be lying if I said I hated Mondays back then. Even though I worked way more, I wasn't nearly as tired, physically or mentally, as I get today after an 8 hour work day.

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” — Steve Jobs

Job satisfaction is hugely underrated. I know at least I didn't factor that in when I went out looking for a job after college. I was too distracted by the paychecks. And I have learned those can only keep you satisfied for so long.

Don’t let your life go on auto-pilot. Your Monday's don’t have to suck so much. As Mr. Jobs said, keep looking, Don’t settle!
