House M.D.
Day 80 / 365
There are a few TV series that I will never get tired of rewatching. One of them is House MD, the show about an eccentric, misanthropic medical genius and his team of diagnosticians.
Back in college, I was so hooked on this show that I used to watch it all night and then miss all my classes the next day. The show has 177 episodes, each about an hour long. And I must have finished all of them in a month.
House’s character is actually based on Sherlock Holmes. Treating illnesses to House is the same as solving cases is to Sherlock. And just like Sherlock has Watson, House has his friend Wilson.
Just like Holmes, House has his struggles with relationships and addiction. These flaws contribute to their character development and make them more relatable.
Why am I talking about House all of a sudden? Maybe it’s cause I just started re-watching it again. I think what we consume as entertainment has a lot of effects on our mental state. These days I was mostly treating myself with reels on Instagram and pointless comedy podcasts. They did nothing for me.
Watching House treat patients against all odds, on the other hand, inspires me a little. Let’s see if that translates into me getting better at my work as well.
