Day 150 / 366

“Was he an animal, that music could move him so? He felt as if the way to the unknown nourishment he longed for were coming to light.”

I came across these lines in the book “The Metamorphosis” which I finished reading today. And it made me realize what a big role music has played in my life to make me feel human. I had a stressful day today. The kind of day that goes by in a flash. Like a sleep without any dream, one moment you close your eyes, and the very next thing you wake up to find it's morning already.

And so, I decided to listen to the songs that never fail to calm my nerves, by a little band you might have heard of called “The Beatles”.

I had always heard of The Beatles but avoided them in my teenage years, thinking they were too popular to be good. I used to judge things like that. If everyone else is into it, it must be average. Then while watching a “Kid’s React” video on YouTube, I heard 5 seconds of the chorus of the song Hey Jude. It was just the “Na, Na, Na…” part. No lyrics, yet I loved it instantly.

I am glad that I gave it a chance, since now there are more than a dozen Beatles songs that I adore.

Paul McCartney wrote that song to comfort John Lennon’s son Julian since his parents were getting a divorce. That’s why the lyrics have so much meaning. He wrote it to cheer up his mate’s 5-year-old son, and 50 years later the song still manages to cheer me up when I need it to.
