Day 189 / 366

Today I watched the British Grand Prix, a Formula 1 race, and it was the best race I have ever watched. Lots of things went well. Max Verstappen, the current World Champion was going to start at 4th on the grid. It was going to be a wet-dry race, which meant that there was a chance of rain during the race which made things even more chaotic.

But the highlight for me so far was that Lewis Hamilton, the 7-time world champion finally won a race again.

This would make more sense to you with a bit of back story. From 2014–2020, Lewis Hamilton dominated this sport. He won 6 world championships during this period, bringing his total up to 7, matching the record of Michael Schumacher.

He was all set to break that record in 2021. He went into the last race tied on points with Max, and he was leading up until the last lap when a controversial decision by the stewards led to him losing the race and the championship.

And ever since then, Lewis went into such a rough patch that he did not win a single race. A 7-time world champion, lost all of his confidence over the last 3 years.

Which is why it felt super special to see him win today. And it gave me hope that rough patches, no matter how long they are, do come to an end one day. Justice delayed is not justice denied.
