Day 25 / 366

In the last dev talk that OpenAI held, they introduced custom GPTs, which are apps that could be built on top of ChatGPT. People are hyping it up to be what the app store was for the iPhone.

I decided to try a few GPTs today to see if they are any good.

Diagrams: Show Me

This GPT is supposed to create cool diagrams and charts of any concept you ask it to. Let’s see if it can create a diagram showing what happens when you open a website on your browser. This is a common question in entry-level coding interviews.

This is what it came up with

Well, it’s not bad, but I won’t say it's good either. But definitely a good starting point. One good thing is that it gives you an option to edit the diagram as well — https://diagrams.helpful.dev/s/s:KR0rJFBX

Video GPT by VEED

This one is for making videos for social media. Let’s see how it does. I gave it this prompt

Let’s create an Instagram reel explaining the compounding effect

It asked me to provide some details

When I gave it the answers, it showed me a draft outline and gave me the option to confirm it or edit it. On confirming, it started generating the video, and here is the end result —

To be honest, this was a bit underwhelming. It’s like a 10-year-old made it.

I think the issue with the GPTs right now is that there is a lot of promise, but they are not living up to it. People seem to be in a hurry to just push products out, not caring if it's good or not. And most people just get excited by the description of an app and start promoting it, without even trying to see if it works.
