Day 354 / 366

A few months ago I was totally against AI coding tools like copilot. I thought they would lead to bad code, and that beginners especially should stay away from it. And it being 20$ a month ensured that most devs won’t have access to it.

But Microsoft just announced that they are introducing a free tier for Copilot, and now every developer with VS Code will be able to access it. However, my opinion on AI tools has changed since then, and I think this could be a good thing.

I don’t pay for copilot myself, I am working on a freelance project and the client pays for my copilot subscription, which is why I started using it. And I really see the value in it now. It’s not extreme, it won’t do things magically for you. But if you use it in the right way, it can easily increase your productivity by 3–4 times.

I think everyone should give it a go. Installation is easy, just open the extensions tab on your VS Code and search for Copilot. You will be asked to login to your GitHub account and then you can simply start using it.
