Getting back the Reading Habit
Day 233 / 366
I have always been into reading and books, but it's only a been a few years since I started reading novels for fun. Before that, I mostly read books with the purpose of learning something, whether these were academic books or books on programming. It was only after I did the one-book-a-week challenge back in 2019 that I found out how much fun it is to read fiction.
But what I have seen lately is that whenever I get overloaded with work, it's the fun things that take a backseat. Which is why ever since I started my office I have stopped reading altogether. There have been novels that I come across every now and then that I want to read, but I never got to them. I think I must have bought a couple dozen books as well since then, as you know, buying books and reading them are two completely different hobbies.
But I really feel like my life was lacking over the past few months because I stopped reading. Even though fiction might not teach you something directly, it does have an effect on your life. Last year, some of the biggest decisions I made were because of how I felt after reading certain Murakami Novels. That is the feeling that I miss.
So I decided today to reach out to my small book club, and we came up with a novel that we could easily read this week and then discuss. And I will make sure that I take time out each day to read it.
