Continuing from my previous post, this blog post is also about some things I’ve learned from the book “The Magic of thinking big”.

“Nothing comes merely by thinking about it.” — John Wanamaker

Every one of us must have had multiple inspiring ideas throughout our lives. What we did with those ideas, however, puts us into two broad groups. First one contains those who didn’t follow up on those ideas. They daydreamed about the ideas, thought of all the great things that could be. But when it came to doing something about it, they always found some excuse to not even bother.

Then there’s the other group. People who do act upon there ideas. These people get things done. They understand that a decent idea that’s acted upon is 100 times better than a great idea that never comes to fruition. We must aspire to be in this group.

Why do we fail to act upon our ideas?

One of the most common reasons why people choose not to act upon their ideas is — the timing isn’t right.

How many times have you been excited about a good place for vacation, but decided not to go visit as the price seemed high, or you thought it’s not the right time to take time off work. “Maybe next year”, you consoled yourself.

The truth is, the timing will never be right. The conditions would never be perfect for you to take action. If you wait for the perfect time, you’ll just keep postponing it forever.

The test of a successful person is not an ability to eliminate all problems before they arise, but to meet and work out difficulties when they do arise.

So make it a point to do something about your ideas. Always write down your ideas, and revisit from time to time. Don’t wait for when the time is right. Cross that bridge when you reach it.
