Finding Purpose

Day 285 / 366

One of the things that I learned in therapy was the importance of having a purpose in life. I used to have a lot of issues with work. I mean I still do, but it used to be a lot more last year. Usually, the reason is that I do not see the results that I want.

When you keep seeing failure after failure, it is hard to keep yourself motivated. Soon enough you lose hope and give up. The problem here is that you link your happiness to your success. But success is external, it might not always be in your hand.

This is where having a purpose is different. Purpose is intrinsic. It’s your internal reason why you are doing whatever it is that you are doing. If you are able to find a purpose, then the results don’t matter anymore.

For instance, my purpose in life right now is to form a company that people love to work in. More specifically, a company that I would love to work in. And so while work or projects might not be going well, as long as I feel that I am building the company that I want, I will be happy.

So instead of worrying about the results, try and find your purpose in life. And keep reminding yourself of it each and every day. Let it serve as the guiding light show you the path to true happiness.
