Day 138 / 365

I find history fascinating. As you can tell by some of my posts, I love reading interesting stories from the past, how life was a few decades or even centuries ago. These days we put so much emphasis on context when discussing things. In a way, our history is the context of the present that we are living in, but most of us don’t know much about it, nor do they care to find out.

One interesting thing to read is quotes from people in the past. There was a guy Charles H. Duell, who worked at the US patent office in the 1890s. His job was to look at new inventions. He famously said that “Everything that can be invented has been invented”. Think of that, he said that before we had TV, planes or space travel!

There was another guy that worked in a patent office that contributed to a lot of new inventions in the early 1900s. That was Albert Einstein, you might have heard of him. While there are many good quotes from him that we know of, there’s one quote from him that we will never know. That’s his last words.

When Einstein was on his death bed in the hospital, the only person around him was a nurse. This was when just before dying he said his last words. The only problem was that he said those in German, and the nurse didn’t speak German. The last words of this great physicist lost forever.
