Day 351 / 366

Holy crap it’s day 351 already. There are just 15 days left for this year.

Let me clarify the title of the blog a bit. I am not talking about famous Indians that were born in India. I know there are plenty of them. What I am talking about are those famous people who you might not know who were born in India and later moved out and became famous.

Today on Reddit, I read a post that I was sure was fake. It said that George Orwell, the author of the dystopian novel 1984, was born in Bihar!

So I checked his Wikipedia, and sure enough, it was correct —

This reminded me of a similar fact I had learned a while back. Did you know that Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the band Queen, was born in India as well!

His original name was Farrokh Bulsara. And while he wasn’t technically born in India, he spent most of his childhood here. His parents were from a Parsi community in India. He studied in a boarding school in Panchgani near Bombay and even formed a boy band here when he was 12.
