I finished reading the book Eat that Frog, which I wrote about in yesterday’s blog. Here are my key takeaways from the book.

Think on Paper

Whatever planning you need to do, take a pen and paper and write that shit down. When you put your goals down on paper, it becomes something concrete, something you can look at every day. This increases the chances of you achieving it, as compared to if you would have just kept it in your head.

Always work off a list

Before you start your day, spend a few minutes and make a list of things you want to achieve that day. Then mark them as ABCDE, A being the most important task and E being the least. If anything new comes up, put that on the list first before starting work on it.

Never miss a day

Apart from the short term and daily goals, you need to take some time every once in a while to review your monthly and yearly goals as well. Above everything else, you need to know the top 2 long terms goal that you want to achieve. And each day, you should do at least one thing that moves you closer to those goals. Every little step counts, so make sure you don’t miss a day.

Technology is a terrible Master but a great slave

Most people today are slaves to their mobile phones and their social media. Whenever you hear the ringtone on your phone, you just have to go and check it, no matter whatever important task you might be in the middle of. As soon as we wake up, the first thing we do is check our phones.

But it’s not all bad. If you work smartly, you can make technology work for you. Turn on notifications on all apps, so that you only check your messages when you need to. Or you can configure your mail apps to show a notification only for certain important emails.

And last but not least, at any given moment of the day, there will be one task that’s the most important, that you should get done first. We are all aware of these tasks, and we often just keep putting them off. So every once in a while during the day ask yourself whether you are doing what you really need to be doing.
