Day 180 / 365

Yesterday I talked about the importance of having a vision, and the motivation to achieve it. But what drives the people that don’t have a vision.

I think the most common motivation for people to do anything is to avoid discomfort. Sooner or later we all find ourselves in a nice little comfort zone, and then we become reluctant to leave it. This is why people get stuck in unsatisfying jobs or dead-end relationships. Sure it sucks, and sure you would want things to be better. But that would mean dealing with some discomfort, and we are extremely motivated to avoid that.

I heard Joe Rogan talk about this on his podcast, and his view on this is really interesting. People these days act as if its there right to feel comfortable. They would resent putting in extra hours at work, or loosing out on a few hours of sleep, or giving up social media to make time for something more productive. You will hear people say stuff like — “Sure I would love to spend less time on my phone, but I just can’t function without it. You see I need that time to relax and refresh my mind”. If you think like that as well, you are really underestimating yourself. There is so much potential in us all, but we would all agree that we utilize 100% of it. Hell, most of us are happy putting in less than half the effort that they actually can.

Comfort should be earned, it should not be seen something that you take for granted. Put your work, your practice first, and when it is done enjoy your rest and your comfort, cause then you would have earned it.
