Don’t look back in anger
The title of the blog is actually the name of a song by one of my favorite bands — Oasis.
It is actually the second Oasis song that I ever heard. For the longest time, I didn’t know what ‘Don’t look back in anger’ meant. But I still liked the song, I just passed it off as one of those songs which you love so much that you ignore how absurd the lyrics are.
Just last year, I heard Noel Gallager, the writer of the song, explain in an interview what that meant, and the whole song became so much more clearer. Don’t look back in anger, means that you shouldn’t think about your past with regret.
Wherever you are in life, is a consequence of all the things that have happened to you along the way. They might be bad events or good. Regardless, they had a role to play in creating the ‘You’ that you are right now.
Now at present, you might not be in a completely good place, but then, who is really? Everyone has shit to deal with, be it a student or a big-time star, like Sharukh Khan. No one is completely happy. But right now, you have you. And that’s all that you get to deal with all the future that is coming for you. You can waste your time complaining about your circumstances. Or you can just accept the situation for what it is, and somehow make the best of it. That is why you shouldn’t look back in anger so that you choose the second option.
On a side note, I would like to add something that I realized today. Some of my best moments in life have been drinking beer and listening to my favorite songs. This means that all I need to be at my happiest is enough money for beer and a working internet connection, which isn’t too much to ask for. What do you need to be at your happiest?
